QUALIFYING FOR MEDICAL TRAVEL
Q. Does everyone qualify for domestic medical travel?
A. No. Before someone can qualify for domestic medical travel several items must be considered including the type of surgery, the cost of the procedure compared to local medical facilities and the ability of the participant to travel.
Q. If I do qualify and decide I want to participate in the domestic medical travel, what do I need to do next?
A. If you decide to participate just notify Hostcare and we will begin working with you right away on the arrangements.
Q. Is domestic medical travel for everyone?
A. There is no question, domestic medical travel is not for everyone and you are not required to accept the offer. First, you would need to qualify for the offer. A Medical Concierge and/or the Hostcare Representative would like to assist you in determining if this is right for you.
DOCTORS
Q. How will I be able to communicate with my surgeon prior to the procedure?
A. Once a surgeon has been identified, you will receive contact information for that provider and we will provide the surgeon with your contact information. A phone call or Skype meeting will be set to allow introductions, a thorough review of what to expect and time for questions.
Q. Where will I need to go to have my necessary scans done prior to surgery?
A. The Medical concierge will work with you to determine the best facilities to use to get necessary scans or testing done prior to surgery. If any of these tests have already been performed, they will work directly with your current provider to obtain the results.
Q. How will my X-rays, MRI, Cat-scan, etc. be provided to the surgeon?
A. The Medical Concierge will work directly with your current medical provider to obtain all of the information needed to be provided to the surgeon prior to your arrival. If you have not yet started working with a local provider, the Medical Concierge will work with you to obtain any testing necessary to evaluate the procedure.
Q. Who selects the surgeon I am being referred to?
A. The Medical Concierge, in conjunction with the facilitator at the medical facility will make recommendations to you on their selected surgeon. As always, the final decision on where the procedure is done and who the surgeon is will always be yours.
Q. Can I see the surgeon’s credentials?
A. Yes. Once a surgeon has been identified you will be provided credentials and further information on that provider.
Q. Who will schedule the doctor’s pre-op and surgery appointments for me?
A. The Medical Concierge will work with you to schedule all doctor’s appointments, both pre and post-surgery.
Q. How long will I need to remain at the medical facility?
A. In most cases, the procedure will be an outpatient procedure. Your surgeon will make you aware in advance if your procedures does require any type of overnight stay.
Q. How comfortable are the doctors with me traveling after my surgery?
A. It is very common for individuals to fly from all over the country to the surgical facilities. Surgeons selected for this program work with traveling patients often.
Q. How long will I need to remain out of town?
A. Each procedure has its own timeline regarding when the surgeon would release you to travel. When you have your initial conversation with the surgeon, you will be provided the information. On average, you can expect to stay anywhere from 5 to 7 days. More complex procedures, such as heart or spine surgeries, would require additional time.
Q. How will I find a doctor or physical therapist once I return home?
A. The Medical Concierge will continue to work with you to hand-selected a physician for follow-up care, along with any type of physical therapy.
TRAVEL COMPANION
Q. Can I have someone travel with me?
A. Yes, in fact, it is required that each person traveling for a medical procedure be accompanied with a travel companion. This may be a spouse, family member, or a friend. There set travel expenses are covered as well.
Q. Does my travel companion need to travel with me?
A. Yes, it is required that the individual traveling with you be on the same flight and share hotel accommodations with you while you are traveling. Similar to if you were having a procedure at the local hospital, a person would need to assist you. Your travel companion’s travel costs will be covered along with yours.
COSTS
Q. Will I need to pay my out of pocket deductible if I decide to participate in the domestic medical travel?
A. No. If you qualify for domestic medical travel, in most cases, the cost of your medical procedure will be free to you.
Q. Will I need to pay for travel expenses?
A. No. If you qualify for domestic medical travel all travel expenses are paid for you. Hostcare is billed directly for airfare, hotel and ground transportation and you will be provided a prepaid visa card for meals and incidental expenses.
Q. If I prefer to drive versus fly, would my travel costs still be covered?
A. Hostcare Resources would be happy to discuss this option with you. If it is decided that a driving reimbursement is viable, you would be compensated with a mileage allowance or you may be presented with the option of a rental vehicle for your travel needs.
Q. Do I pay for Hostcare Resources services?
A. In most cases, Hostcare Resources is hired by and services covered by your employer and/or individuals working with your medical plan to assist you and your travel companion with your domestic medical travel arrangements.
Q. How will I pay for my meals and incidentals while I am traveling?
A. Each individual traveling will receive a preloaded Visa gift card to be used towards meals and incidentals. It will be at your discretion on how you choose to use the money provided to you. You may choose to have groceries in your room to save on eating out. The exciting news is the remaining balance on your Visa gift card is yours to keep if you spend wisely.
Q. Will I need to put any of the travel expenses on my own credit card?
A. Hostcare Resources has a direct bill account setup with your hotel. The hotel does require each guest have a personal credit card on file. Your room accommodations will not be billed to your personal credit card. Additional charges incurred can either be charged to your personal credit card or you can utilize your Visa gift card.
