...Emily saw various doctors, until she was finally referred to an Orthopedic doctor by her family physician who ordered an MRI. The MRI results revealed that she needed surgery. “I did not feel comfortable with this doctor,” Emily states, and that’s when she received a call from Hostcare Resources explaining the medical travel option offered through her employer’s self- funded insurance plan. “Hostcare Resources called me and explained how everything works and I kept asking, ‘are you sure?’ It was just too good to be true.” Hostcare began coordinating her appointments with the surgeon and the facility for an added option. She was immediately impressed and comfortable with the surgeon and his recommendation for a spine surgery.
Hostcare arranged all the medical travel arrangements, including hotel stay, coordinated the appointments and surgery date and times with the doctor’s office and surgery facility’s staff. Emily was impressed at how friendly the entire staff was from the front desk to the medical team. “They explained everything. They know what they are doing!” She was equally as impressed with her hotel stay, going on to explain that she didn’t have to worry about a thing. “Everything was taken care of for me.” Emily becomes emotional just talking about her experience. She would think to herself that there’s no way another company could take care of somebody else like this, with so much caring and thought. “What most impressed me is that Hostcare really cares about the patient and offered me an option to see the best doctor I’ve ever met.”
Her recovery went smoothly and life after surgery has been pain free for her. She even took a trip to visit Egypt, Japan, and Korea. “I walked and walked on my trip without pain.” She added, “Even my co-workers say to me, ‘Emily, you’re walking straight!’” She is so grateful to Hostcare Resources for this option, but most importantly, for the care and thoughtfulness that was shown throughout the entire process.
...From the very beginning, Steve was impressed with the neurosurgeon presented to him through Hostcare Resources’ medical travel options. During the consultation, he and his wife both learned more about his back condition than ever before and the second opinion helped identify that a spinal fusion was needed. On their way home from the appointment, they contacted Hostcare to identify what they needed to do next because they were ready to schedule the surgery date.
Just as promised, Hostcare assisted with setting the surgery date, took care of the lodging needs and provided them with mileage reimbursement plus a daily travel allowance. He says he is amazed at how well everything went, “the company went above and beyond.” Steve says the medical facility was, “top notch- very clean, very organized.” He was very confident in the surgeon’s abilities and says, “Everything the doctor told me to expect is what happened, the pain level was what he said to expect and three days after the surgery, my shoulder pain was gone.” He adds, “things went better than I could’ve imagined- I couldn’t be more happy.”
Today, Steve says he is able to sleep much better and that he has regained range of motion in his head, neck, and shoulders. “I’m looking forward to playing ball and catch with my kids when its warmer,” says Steve. He doesn’t anticipate that he will be held back from anything active. Steve says that he would recommend Hostcare services to others, and is even forwarding their information pamphlet to his company’s corporate department. “They mean what they say and do what they say. If it seems too good to be true, it’s not!” Steve is very thankful to Hostcare Resources and says, “no one likes to have surgery and they made the experience as pain-less as possible.”
Josette Abrams has always been a very active person, so when she started to experience pain in her right knee that hindered her work outs she knew it was time to get it checked. She had previously undergone a total left knee replacement, so she knew the signs. Her doctor took x-rays which showed that she had some degeneration and it was basically, bone on bone. Josette liked her doctor and had no reserves about getting her surgery scheduled. Then, she received a call from Hostcare Resources. “I didn’t think it was for real,” says Josette. She states that she really connected with her doctor, who had previously performed a rotator cuff surgery for her and she just really wasn’t interested in the Hostcare option. ...…Hostcare arranged a consultation between Josette and the surgeon. Josette says that she really connected with the surgeon and was impressed with the surgeon, staff, and facility. What was most impressive to Josette was that the surgeon didn’t push the surgery. Josette states, “I thought he would push it, but he didn’t.” She says that it wasn’t just about getting business for them, they do care about the patient and what they want. Josette firmly believes that it is important to make a connection with the doctor who is treating you. She decided to go through with the surgery and take advantage of the Hostcare benefit.”
“It was a very personal experience,” explains Josette. The surgeon, staff, and facility were all great according to Josette and she was blown away by the personal care and touch she received from the medical staff and Hostcare- everyone was very approachable and easy to access. Josette says that Host care made all the arrangements and she didn’t have to worry about making calls and appointments. “Everything got done so quickly… I felt like I was going on a trip!” says Josette.
According to Josette, the best parts of the Hostcare option were the personal care she received, being aligned with the right doctor, ease of just showing up because all the arrangements were made, and the financial aspect of lodging and food being taken care of for you. She has already recommended Hostcare to a colleague and says she would definitely recommend to others.
Josette is feeling better and back to keeping active. It was an adjustment during her recovery and had to keep on top of her therapy, which she believes, that along with a great surgeon, is the key to recovering fully. Today she is back to doing everything and enjoys Zumba, Spinning, Weight Training, and Yoga!
Paul Bower began to experience some pain and soreness with his right hip. “I was limping all the time and in pain… I could barely walk after getting home from work… it was an inconvenience.” The pain began to worsen and he knew it was time to see a doctor. After having x-rays, Paul was diagnosed with arthritis, a condition that runs in his family. He was told that he needed to have a hip replacement. Paul’s initial skeptic view of the medical travel option quickly was changed to recognizing this as a true benefit.”
“I kept thinking, having not to pay (for my surgery) and getting an incentive… I thought something would come up, that there would be a catch.” However, there was no catch and Paul was impressed with the entire experience. He expressed how he had an extremely qualified surgeon, the facility was great, and his hotel stay was wonderful. “Everyone was great and friendly, the doctor was down to earth and had a great sense of humor.”
Paul is feeling great after his surgery! “I recovered so fast!” He started to feel better within days and even walked over a mile only five days after his surgery. Paul is able to work and come home without any pain.
“I don’t wish that anyone would need surgery, but if they do need it, I want to tell them about Hostcare.” In fact, Paul recommends Hostcare to his colleagues. He is extremely appreciative of the care and attention he received from Hostcare. “They called frequently to check in and any concerns were taken care of right away… they didn’t beat around the bush… I really appreciated that.” Paul says he will most likely need to have his other hip replaced eventually and he will most definitely be calling Hostcare Resources!

...They called to explain the medical travel option, to which she stated, “it doesn’t sound real.” Jean Marie went back and forth with the idea and says, “I even told my husband it sounded like a scam.’’ Hostcare identified a surgeon that specializes in the type of procedure that she needed. They sent the surgeon her images and coordinated a phone consultation. During the call, she was able to speak directly with the surgeon and discovered that she did not need the invasive surgery that had been recommended by her doctor- they just need to move the nerve. After further review, she made the decision to cancel the original surgery and scheduled the surgery through Hostcare Resources.
Jean Marie stated “Hostcare took care of everything- from the moment I left my door to the moment I arrived back home.” The hotel was beautiful and she was blown away by the service and how it was all paid. She went on to tell us, “the surgery went perfect! My doctor is extremely talented and the staff is amazing!” In fact, she felt so great after the surgery that she walked all around Central Park and even went out to dinner that same night! If Jean Marie had followed through with her original doctor and done the procedure with him, she would have had no use of her arm for 12 weeks! She was very thankful she gained a second opinion through Hostcare Resources. Furthermore, she had the opportunity to share her story with another specialist a few weeks after the surgery. The specialist was impressed with the level of skill of the surgeon. “He told me he had never seen such a beautiful job done and wanted to know who the doctor was.” Before the surgery, Jean Marie was restricted in her daily activities, but today she says, “I can now do everything!”
“It still doesn’t seem right,” says Jean Marie, “you’re handled like a superstar! It’s almost like a fairytale.” She is truly grateful for the care and compassion she received from Hostcare Resources and the surgeon’s team- she says both were understanding, patient with her husband’s schedule, and quick to follow-up on her recovery and progress following the surgery. She explains that there is a lot of stress and anxiety when you’re facing a surgery, but they took that stress away. Jean Marie says that when she tells others about her experience they look at her in disbelief. “People are crazy if they don’t use Hostcare - it makes a tough situation more pleasant- I would recommend this to anyone!”
...Deborah went through the process of contacting her medical concierge, who then informed her of the medical travel option through Hostcare Resources. She was open to hearing the options offered through Hostcare Resources and spoke with a Hostcare representative. “She was very, very nice; she told me the options and didn’t push anything.” She shares that her initial reaction was that it sounded too good to be true and wondered, “what’s the catch?”
“I wasn’t sure I wanted to change doctors, I’d seen my original orthopedic doctor for the past 8 years and I like him.” After talking things over with her husband, though, they decided a second opinion with no obligation would be a good idea. She met with the surgeon Hostcare presented and he explained more about the condition of her knee than her first doctor. “I didn’t know all the things that were wrong,” explains Deborah.
Deborah made the choice to go with the medical travel option. She felt even more confident when talking to her original doctor’s office about her decision, she was told that this facility sends their most complex cases to the same facility that Deborah had decided on. She said, “I thought, okay, it’s a good place!” She decided to go with the Hostcare option because of the surgeon’s knowledge, his expertise and it would be taking place at an orthopedic hospital. In addition, there would be considerable financial savings for her.
Deborah says that the medical facility she went to was very accommodating and helpful. Her surgery went well and she has had no issues with her recovery. Deborah shares that what has been very impressive is the personal touch from everyone. Furthermore, everything was taken care of through Hostcare, “things I would have handled on my own, I could contact Hostcare and get it taken care of.” Even communication with the surgeon himself was very impressive, Deborah says she had his direct email- “He emailed me back from his phone!”
She even received a call from the joint replacement class coordinator when she wasn’t able to attend; they mailed her the information and made themselves available to speak with her via phone. “It was a very personal experience,” says Deborah.
When asked if she would recommend this option to anyone else, Deborah says, “I already have!”
If given the opportunity to pursue this option again for an additional procedure, she states she would have no reservations. In fact, Deborah is looking forward to be able to utilize Hostcare medical travel option again for her next knee replacement later this year.
