Q. How will I be able to communicate with my surgeon prior to the procedure?
A. Once a surgeon has been chosen, you will receive their contact information and we will provide the surgeon with your contact information. A telehealth appointment or an in-person consultation (depending on distance) will be scheduled to allow for introductions and a thorough review of what to expect. We want you to have an opportunity to ask the surgeon your questions.
Q. Where will I need to go to have my necessary scans done prior to surgery?
A. Your Hostcare Patient Navigator will work with you to determine the best facilities to use for any necessary scans or testing done prior to surgery. If any of these tests have already been performed, you can request a copy directly from your current provider or the Patient Navigator can work directly with your current provider to obtain the results.
Q. How will my X-rays, MRI, CT-scan, etc. be provided to the surgeon?
A. Your Hostcare Patient Navigator will work with you to ensure the surgeon has all the necessary information and records prior to your telehealth appointment or in-person consultation. If you have not yet started working with a local medical provider, your Patient Navigator will work with you to obtain any testing necessary to evaluate the procedure.
Q. Who selects the surgeon or specialist I am being referred to?
A. Your Hostcare Patient Navigator, in conjunction with the facilitator at the medical facility, will make recommendations to you on their selected surgeon. In the case of requiring a specialist, the medical experts within the provider group will present specialists for you to review.
As always, the final decision on who the surgeon or specialist is and where the procedure is done will be yours.
Q. Can you assist me in finding a surgeon that can accommodate my special needs?
A. Please inform your Hostcare Patient Navigator of any special needs you have and they will do their best to find a surgeon who can address your needs.
Q. Can I see the surgeon’s credentials?
A. Yes! You will be presented with the surgeon’s name and CV (medical curriculum vitae) up front. We always encourage patients to review and research their surgeon before selecting. Hostcare wants every patient to feel confident about the surgeon they choose.
Q. Am I obligated to use the Hostcare recommended surgeon?
A. Once you have reviewed the surgeon’s information, if you are not comfortable with that surgeon, we are more than happy to provide another surgeon for your consideration.
Q. Who will schedule the doctor and surgical appointments for me?
A. Your Hostcare Patient Navigator will work with you to schedule all pre-operative appointments, surgery, and post-operative appointments.
Q. How long will I need to remain at the medical facility?
A. Your surgeon will determine the length of stay at the hospital or surgery center. You will be made aware of the estimated length of stay in advance of your procedure.
Q. Are the doctors comfortable with me traveling after my surgery?
A. Surgeons who elect to be a part of this program are committed to medical travel and frequently work with patients from outside their area. They will discharge you based on your condition and their extensive experience treating traveling patients.
Q. How long will I need to remain
out of town?
A. Each procedure has its own timeline regarding traveling back home. When you have your initial conversation with the surgeon, you will be provided timeline information.
Q. How will I find a physical therapist once I return home?
A. Your Hostcare Patient Navigator will assist you in identifying a local, in-network physical therapist.
