We carefully review our providers so you can choose confidently.

Picture
When you choose to use Hostcare, you can be confident that we have identified medical providers across the country who are highly skilled in their field of health care. Hostcare continually seeks out medical centers that deliver high reviews and ratings.  We choose surgeons and their teams who are committed to offering our members a high level of quality medical care. Each surgeon is reviewed by Hostcare Resources and we also encourage members to complete a thorough, online review.

Hostcare Resources is committed to making sure you have the best experience possible.

Our team of Patient Navigators and Travel Specialists deliver an exceptional level of service and care during a difficult time, easing the anxiety of scheduling details.
PHASE ONE

Qualifying for
Domestic Travel Benefit

Picture
Picture
The first step in qualifying is to identify if the surgery type is appropriate for travel. Hostcare Resources will compare the cost of performing your procedure locally to the cost of traveling.
Picture
Your Patient Navigator will provide a thorough overview of the program and offer choices that direct your care to experienced surgeons based on your surgery type.
Picture
You will be provided with surgeon biographies to research and review. Once your surgeon is selected and you communicate your desire to proceed, the surgeon you have selected is provided with your medical history and records to move forward with scheduling your second opinion at no cost.

Second Opinion at No Cost

Picture
If you wish to proceed with your no-cost consultation to gain a second opinion, your Patient Navigator will make the arrangements for either a face-to-face consult or telemedicine call.  You’ll have the opportunity to meet with the surgeon and ask questions. If your case qualifies both financially and medically the surgery, facilitated through Hostcare Resources, would be performed at no cost or at a significantly reduced cost to you. The final decision on a surgeon and medical facility is always your choice.  After your no cost consultation, simply contact your Patient Navigator to share if you wish to proceed using your Hostcare voluntary benefit.

Talk Things Through

Picture
Feel free to consult with your health plan administrator, your company health plan contact, or a Hostcare Patient Navigator with any questions about the domestic travel benefit.   Talking with these contacts will help you understand the difference between your out-of-pocket cost associated with your standard medical benefit plan option (working with a local provider) versus the Hostcare medical travel benefit program.
PHASE TWO

Travel
Arrangements

Picture
If you qualify and accept the Hostcare domestic medical travel benefit, your Hostcare Travel Specialist will begin coordinating your schedule and travel. Your specialist's goal is to arrange all the details so you can focus on your surgery and recovery. You can contact your Travel Specialist for assistance 24/7 while you are traveling.
Picture
The Travel Specialist will make all the necessary reservations and bookings for you and your travel companion.
Picture
Airfare, hotel, and rental car options will be reviewed with you to ensure comfort and satisfaction.
Picture
A customized itinerary will be sent to you prior to your travels, along with a Hostcare check for meal and travel allowance.
Picture
All added costs associated with traveling are prepaid and covered by Hostcare Resources for both you and your travel companion.

Ground vs. Airline Travel

Picture
Hostcare will recommend ground or airline travel depending on where a member lives in relation to the best provider option for a specific surgery.  The patient always is given options to consider based on the best surgeons available for their specific medical needs.

Ground Travel

Picture
If a surgeon is located 4 hours or less by car from a member’s home, the member will be approved to drive with a travel companion.
  • You will receive a travel allowance and personalized itinerary.
  • Depending on the distance and procedure type, you may either return home upon release from the facility or stay in a nearby hotel arranged by your Travel Specialist.
  • Patients that live closer to their provider typically return for post-care visits.
  • The Travel Specialist will arrange your travel details each time you need to travel to visit your surgeon.

Air Travel

Picture
Members who must travel farther than 4 hours by car for a procedure are presented with options for air travel. How long you are out of town will depend on the type of surgery. Your Patient Navigator will inform you how long you can expect to stay in the location to where are you are traveling.
  • Pre-op time: Patients should expect to have a face-to-face consultation the day before their surgery.
  • Post-op time: Most patients will have their first post-op appointment with the surgeon prior to flying home.
  • Post-op Care time: Follow-up appointments are arranged as telemedicine appointments once you return home.

Surgery and
Post-op Care

Picture
Surgery Expectations
Before your surgery, you will likely have a face-to-face, pre-operative consultation and testing. Hostcare Resources will coordinate all those details with the surgeon’s office.
  • Outpatient Procedure: You will be discharged post-procedure to return to your home or hotel with your travel companion.
  • Hospital Stay Procedure: If overnight or extended hospital stay is required, your travel companion will be able to return to the hotel or stay overnight with you if the hospital allows.

Post-operative Expectations
Your surgeon will provide you with post-operative instructions and an appointment date for any follow-up care. Hostcare Patient Navigators and Travel Specialists will assist you with any follow-up care, including finding a local Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist should your surgeon recommend physical therapy or occupational therapy.
